I’m watching Snail move across the sidewalk with patient, unhurried progress. When Snail shows up along my walk, I stop. Snail’s invitation is always needed— to move with the speed of life. Not the speed of our modern human life but with the heartbeat of the natural world. A sustainable rhythm, slow and steady. I take notes about the ways Snail pauses often and turns inward when needed. Sometimes for protection or self-preservation. Sometimes simply to rest. So smart!
Observing snail, I sense my own system reset. The tension in my upper body begins to soften. Any anxious energy I’ve been holding is already sifting down. My breathing slows. Along this walk, snail sets the pace. It is a pace I wish to carry into my day and into the expansiveness of summer.
