Lessons in Swatches
Between projects and blank pages are these squares of color, small nature swatches. The lines are a bit wonky. The paint is uneven. Its moments like this when I feel like a beginner. I am learning the qualities of a new kind of paint and how it responds to water and paper. I am omitting the details to attend to color, uncertain and curious about these abstracted views. It’s all about the process, which I’ll admit isn’t easy. It challenges the part of me that likes clean lines and polished endings. It challenges the part of me that likes to know where I'm going. It takes me out of my comfort in favor of exploration. These lessons in swatches are invitations to play. And unpolished and imperfect feels better than the empty page.
