Language and Fluency

I speak the language of seasons and am fluent in the natural world. I can read the winter skyscapes and smell the snow before it falls. I tell time by the length of shadows and by the sun's position in the sky. I am fluent in spring's arrival— the crocus and violets are the first to emerge. I am fluent in the language of summer, in the sunflowers' rooted strength and in the bees' devotion to harvesting gold, their life-sustaining work. I am fluent in the sunsets of autumn and in the palette of falling leaves. I am learning the language of impermanence, the cycle of death and rebirth.

I speak the language of birds and am fluent in their symphony of songs. I can hear the starling murmurations and know the sound of a chickadee's call. I am fluent in Robin's arrival and her morning cheer-up song. I am fluent in the stillness of great horned owls and in the cooing of two mourning doves. I am learning the language of ravens who speak of ancestral wisdom and grief. I am fluent in the language of refuge found in the beauty of a nest.

I speak the language of water and am fluent in its emotional force. I feel the language of alpine lakes— deep, reflective and calm. I am learning the language of rivers, flowing with the changes of life. I am fluent in ponds of compassion, widening circles that ripple out. I am fluent in tides of the ocean and the healing of saline tears. I have reverence for the sacred language that springs from our Mother Earth.

I speak the language of cats and am fluent in their sensitive ways. I understand their language of connection, the nuances of their tails and meows. I admire in their expression of attention— the mindful way they explore the world. I am learning their language of movement, their fluency of ease and grace. I am curious about their language of dreams and am practicing the fluency of play.

I speak the language of healing and am fluent in the wounds of time. I have spoken the narrative of struggle and am learning the language to thrive. I speak the language of beauty and am fluent in its restorative power. I listen with my intuition and am learning to trust her voice. I am learning the language of embodiment and how to listen from deep in my bones. I love the language of connection and am fluent in the language of love. I understand the language of sorrow and am embracing the language of joy.  I practice the language of gratitude and wish to be fluent in the language of Life.
