breath-taking

My eye spied this beauty at the edge of the lawn, sputtering and pausing, unable to fly. In the stunning stillness, I zoomed carefully in, capturing the intricacies of four laced wings. Nature’s perfection, symmetry. Only now do I wonder, would I have stayed so long if I’d known I was witnessing her final breaths? It wasn’t until later that I learned of her fate. Stung by a wasp, now feeding on her remains. The bitter-sweet relationship of predator and prey. Nature can seem so cruel. And breathtaking suddenly holds new meaning, knowing this life was willfully taken.
